OLHA SOVHYRIA

Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

 

Olha Sovhyria was born on August 6, 1980 in the city of Kyiv.

In 2003, she obtained a higher legal education at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Law), and received a master’s degree in law.

She started working on October 1, 2001 as a 1st category specialist at the Ukrainian Institute of Industrial Property.

Since October 1, 2003, she was a postgraduate student at the Faculty of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Since January 10, 2005 –assistant, since June 11, 2008 –associate professor of the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law of the Faculty of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

From September 16, 2015 to August 15, 2019, she was a professor at the Department of Constitutional Law, Faculty of Law, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

In 2005, she defended her thesis for the degree of Candidate of Law in the specialty 12.00.02 “Constitutional Law” on “Legal status of the parliamentary opposition: comparative legal analysis”; in 2013 –thesis for obtaining the degree of Doctor of Law in the specialty 12.00.02 “Constitutional Law; municipal law” on “Constitutional and legal status of the Government in Ukraine”.

In 2019, she was elected a People’s Deputy of Ukraine. She held the offices of Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Legal Policy and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Political Reform and Constitutional Law.

On October 16, 2019, she was elected to the office of Permanent Representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

On July 27, 2022, she was appointed to the office of the Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine by a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. She took the oath on August 2, 2022.

She is an author of more than 120 publications on constitutional and constitutional procedural law.
