A Bilateral Meeting Between the Judges of the Constitutional Courts of Ukraine and the Republic of Latvia Took Place

A bilateral meeting of representatives of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia took place on Friday, September 16, as part of the working visit of the delegation of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to the Republic of Latvia.

Ukrainian delegation was represented by the Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhiy Holovaty, the judges of the Court Oksana Hryshchuk and Galyna Yurovska. The delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia was composed of the President of the Court Aldis Lavinš, Vice-President Irēna Kucina, the judges of the Court Gunārs Kusiņš, Jānis Neimanis, Artūrs Kučs, Anita Rodiņa, Jautrīte Briede.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Latvian colleagues expressed their support and assured their readiness to continue long-term relations between the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia and the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. The parties positively characterized the existing long-term cooperation as successful, productive and professional. Therefore, in their opinion, there is a need to deepen and improve bilateral cooperation.

The participants of the meeting discussed a number of important and topical issues related to the execution of the decisions of the constitutional courts of Ukraine and the Republic of Latvia. The interlocutors exchanged opinions and practical experience regarding the resolution of problematic issues regarding monitoring of the execution of the decisions of constitutional review bodies. During the expert discussion, the parties to the meeting also paid attention to current jurisprudence, in particular, they shared information about some decisions that were made in the past and current years. As it was mentioned that despite the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine continues to exercise its constitutional powers to establish the supremacy of the Basic Law of Ukraine throughout the territory of our State and protect the constitutional human and citizen’s rights and freedoms.

At the end of the meeting, the judges of Ukraine’s Constitutional Court expressed gratitude for the hospitality and expressed hope for continued fruitful cooperation and the successful implementation of all future common intentions.
