VIKTOR HORODOVENKO 

Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

 

Viktor Horodovenko was born on February 22, 1968 in Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia region. He began his working activity in 1985. He served compulsory military service.

In 1993 he graduated from the Ukrainian Law Academy.

1993-2003 - judge of the Melitopol City Court, later - as the Chairman of this court.

2003-2004 - Chairman of the Melitopol District Court of Zaporizhzhia region.

2005 - 2017 - Chairman of the Court of Appeal of Zaporozhzhia region.

On November 13, 2017, Mr. Horodovenko was appointed judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine by the XIV Extraordinary Congress of Judges of Ukraine. He took the oath of a judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on November 21, 2017.

Mr. Horodovenko is a Representative of Ukraine to the Consultative Council of the European Judges at the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Professor of the Department of History and Theory of State and Law of Zaporizhzhia National University. Member of the Supervisory Board of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University.

Distinguished Lawyer of Ukraine, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor, winner of Yaroslav Mudryi Award. Decorated with the Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Honourary Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Author of more than 60 publications on judicial ethics and the independence of judges, monographs "Problems of the Establishment of the Independent Judiciary in Ukraine" (2007); "Principles of Judicial Power" (2012); "Judiciary" (2015).

Member of editorial boards of "The Bulletin of the Supreme Court of Ukraine", "The Word of the National School of Judges", "The Journal of Civil and Criminal Justice".
