Suzanna Stanik

 

Suzanna Stanik was born on September 27, 1954 in Lviv.

In 1977 she graduated from the Law Faculty of Lviv Ivan Franko State University (Diploma cum Laude).

1988 –1990 – a course participant at Odessa Institute of Political Sciences and Sociology (Diploma cum Laude).

She began to work in 1978. In 1978 – 1994 she held responsible posts in the executive bodies in Lviv region and the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

1994 – 1996 – Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine.

September 1996 – August 1997 – Minister of Family and Youth Affairs of Ukraine.

August 1997 – May 2002 – Minister of Justice of Ukraine.

1998 – 2002 – Member of the Council of National Security and Defense of Ukraine. 

1997 – 2004 – permanent representative of Ukraine to the Executive Council of the United Nations Children’s Fund – UNICEF.

2001 – 2005 – Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission). 

October 1998 – Suzanna Stanik was awarded an honorary title “People’s Ambassador of Ukraine” by the decision of the Board of the Ukrainian Charity Foundation for facilitation of the international dialogue.

December 2001 – March 2004 – Permanent Representative of Ukraine at the Council of Europe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Swiss Confederation. In 2002 she was awarded rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary by the President of Ukraine.

On March 25, 2004 she was appointed Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine by the President of Ukraine.

In September 2006 she was elected Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

Decorated with the Order of Princess Olga, 3rd class (1998), and the Order of Merit, 3rd class (2004). Decorated by the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus with the Order of the Great Prince of Lithuania Gediminas, 3rd class (1998) and the President of the Portuguese Republic with the Order of “Badge of Honour” (1998). Decorated with the Honorary Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for significant merits to the Ukrainian people (2006), Diploma of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine “For outstanding contribution to the development of the constitutional justice in Ukraine” (2005), Honorary Award of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (2006), Honorary Award of the High Council of Justice for extraordinary contribution to strengthening of the judicial power, Lapel badge “Badge of honour” of the Kyiv City Council (2005).   

Distinguished Lawyer of Ukraine. Candidate of Legal Sciences.

From December 1997 – Member of the International Academy of Sciences, Education, Industry and Arts (California, United States of America), member of the Council of Women – world’s leaders of the International Association of Legal Methodology.

In April 2010 the President of Ukraine accepted the resignation of Suzanna Stanik.
