Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine
 

Oleksandr Petryshyn was born on April 30, 1960 in the city of Horodok, Khmelnytskyi region.

In 1985 he graduated from the Kharkiv Law Institute (now Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University), where he later progressed from a research intern to a professor.

In 1987−1988 Oleksandr Petryshyn studied at a postgraduate course, in 1994−1997 at a doctoral course.

In 1999–2000 he was the Head of the Department of Planning and Coordination of Legal Research of the Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine (now known as the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine).

Since 2000 − Deputy Director for research work of the Research Institute of State Building and Local Self-Government of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.

In 2002–2007 he was the chief academic secretary of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine; Professor of the Department of Theory of State and Law at Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University.

In 2007–2010 Oleksandr Petryshyn was the Vice-President, since December 2010 – the First Vice-President, and since March 3, 2016 – the President of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine. During this period, he also held the position of the Head of the Department of Theory of State and Law at Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University.

Oleksandr Petryshyn participated in the development of draft amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, draft laws of Ukraine “On Public Service”, ”On Training of Highly Qualified Research Personnel”, “On Research and Research and Technical Activities”, “Concepts of Criminal Justice Reform in Ukraine”, etc.

He worked as a member of the Commission on Legal Reform under the President of Ukraine, the Committee for State Awards of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, research advisory councils of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the Supreme Court. Member of the Specialised Academic Council at the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University. He was a member of the Expert Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the field of legal sciences, the Presidium of the Higher Certificate Commission of Ukraine, a member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The Head of the editorial board of the scientific legal journal “Bulletin of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine”, a member of the editorial boards of the journals “Bulletin of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine”, “Law of Ukraine”, “New Ukrainian Law”, “Problems of Legality”, “Lawyer of Ukraine”, “Yearbook of Ukrainian Law”, international legal journal “The Baltic Journal of Law”. Author of more than 400 publications.

On November 26, 2021, upon the results of the competition, Oleksandr Petryshyn was appointed a Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine by the Decree of the President of Ukraine. He took the oath on September 21, 2022.

Doctor of Legal Sciences, professor, Full Member (academician) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Distinguished Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine.

Awarded with the Order of Merit, III degree, the Certificate of Honour of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Certificate of Honour of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology.
