Andrii Stryzhak

 

Andrii Stryzhak was born in 1947 in Dubrivka, Uzhgorodskyi district, Zakarpatskyi region, in a peasant’s family.

He began his labour activity as a worker, then a locksmith at the Uzhgorodskyi Automobile Operating Company no. 06012.

He served a regular term in the army.

In 1971 he graduated from Kharkiv Law Institute and the same year began his professional career as an investigation officer at the prosecutor’s office in Ivanivskyi district, Odessa region.

1971 – 1978 – assistant to the prosecutor in Uzhgorod, prosecutor at the investigation department of the prosecutor’s office in Zakarpatskyi region, senior assistant to the prosecutor in Uzhgorod region.

1978 – 1988 – judge, Deputy Chairman of Zakarpatskyi regional court.

From 1988 –  Judge of the Supreme Court of Ukraine.

From 1996 – Chairman of Zakarpatskyi regional court, Chairman of Zakarpatskyi regional court of appeal.

In December 2004 he was appointed Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine by the Sixth Congress of Judges of Ukraine and swore the oath on August 4, 2006.

2007 – 2010 – Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

Decorated with the Order of Prince Yaroslav Mudry, 5th and 4th classes.

For distinguished merits in legislative, judicial and law-application activities awarded with the Yaroslav Mudry Prize. 

Candidate of Legal Sciences. Distinguished Lawyer of Ukraine.

Author of numerous scientific works, in particular, monographs “Judicial Administration in Ukraine. Theoretical Foundations and Legal Regulation”, “Issues of the Theory of Constitutional Justice in Ukraine, “Topical Issues of Contemporary Development of Constitutional Justice” as well as the first Ukrainian scholarly and practical commentary on the Law “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine” and analytical review and commentary “Constitution of Ukraine in the Acts of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine”, “Electoral Law in Ukraine. History and the present time“. Co-author of the monograph “Issues of the Theory of the Constitutional Justice in Ukraine“.

On February 22, 2013 he was dismissed from office by the ХІ Congress of Judges of Ukraine in view of the attainment of the age of 65.
