Workshop for the Teaching Staff of the National School of Judges Held at the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

Today, 24 December, a workshop for the teaching staff of the National School of Judges of Ukraine was held at the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The participants were welcomed by the Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhiy Holovaty and the judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleh Pervomaiskyi.

During the workshop, judge Galyna Yurovska spoke about 25 landmark decisions of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. She drew attention to the constitutional principles and values, human and citizen’s rights and freedoms which have been protected by the Court.

“Each decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is the result of the hard work, substantial analysis and collection of academic opinions and positions of scholars in this field as well as professional discussions among judges”, Galyna Yurovska stressed.

The judge emphasised that the decision of the body of constitutional jurisdiction of Ukraine in which legal positions have been formulated are a part of domestic legislation and must be applied in court practice.

In her speech, the judge noted that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, through the determined mechanisms of constitutional control, forms the official constitutional doctrine, provides and develops its legal positions, which are based on the fundamental values of the Constitution of Ukraine, the European Convention on Human Rights, other international agreements ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Galyna Yurovka noted that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, in order to protect the constitutional human and citizen’s rights and freedoms, is quite actively applying international experience on the issues presenting the most public interest and which are fundamental for further work towards the protection of human values.

She explained in details the Court’s decisions which have had a significant impact on the public and political life of the state.

Furthermore, the teaching staff of the National School of Judges of Ukraine visited the Court’s exhibition and the courtrooms in which the important decisions for the state are adopted.
