Serhiy Holovaty was one of the main speakers at the International Conference in Gdansk

Upon the invitation of the Venice Commission, Acting Chief Justice Serhiy Holovaty took part in an International Conference “Elements and dynamics of the European legal standard”, organised by the Venice Commission in cooperation with the University of Gdansk.  The event was held on 18-19 April 2024 in Gdansk, Republic of Poland.

The conference was chaired by Honorary President of the Venice Commission Hanna Suchocka and Director and Secretary of the Venice Commission Simona Granata-Menghini.

Adam Bodnar, Minister of Justice of Poland, and Claire Bazy Malaurie, President of the Venice Commission, addressed the conference with a keynote speech.

Honorary President of the Venice Commission Kaarlo Tuori, the Vice President of the Commission Martin Kuijer and several members of the Commission, namely Serhiy Holovaty, Regina Kiener and Cesare Pinelli, were among the main speakers in defferent panels.

Acting Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhiy Holovaty delivered a presentation “Twist & Turns of the Separation of Powers in Ukraine and Guidance of the Venice Commission”.

The participants addressed the topic of the conference through the following panels:

∙ An attempt to define the legal standard;

∙ In search of the legal standard on the separation of powers;

∙ The legal standard on the judiciary and the prosecutor's office;

∙ The legal standard on the constitutional judiciary;

∙ The significance of the legal standard for the democratic state of law in the EU system.

Leading Polish academics were among the speakers and participants to the conference.
