Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine took part in the round table “The constitutional process in Ukraine: new challenges or repeating old mistakes?”

 

 

On July 9, 2015 judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Mykola Melnyk, SerhiiSas, Ihor Slidenko, Petro Stetsiuk, Natalia Shaptala and Viktor Shyshkin took part in the round table “The constitutional process in Ukraine: new challenges or repeating old mistakes?”

The event was organised by the Ukrainian Centre for Economic and Political Studies named after Oleksandr Razumkov supported by the “Rada” Programm and German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation in Ukraine (IRZ) and attended by scholars, independent experts, representatives of judicial institutions, legislative and executive authorities, and international organisations.

The participants of the round table were welcomed by the Head of Razumkov Centre Mykola Martynenko, representative of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation in Ukraine Hennadii Ryzhkov and Director of the “Rada” Programm Andrii Shevchenko.

During the round table a presentation of scientific research materials on the decentralisation, namely ways to general and capable local self-government or strengthening control of central government over it; some urgent problems of the judiciary, which can not be resolved withoutamending the Constitution of Ukraine took place. There were also discussed amendments to Chapter II of the Constitution of Ukraine concerning human and citizen’s rights, freedoms and duties which could enhance guarantees of protection of citizens.
