Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine participated in the expert discussion “The Social State of Ukraine - in Peace and War. Constitutional Dimension”

Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Petryshyn, judges of the Court Oksana Hryshchuk, Oleg Pervomaykiy, Olga Sovgyria participated in the expert discussion “The Social State of Ukraine - in Peace and War. The Constitutional Dimension”.

The event was organised by the Ukrainian Catholic University with the support of the Council of Europe Projects “Strengthening the Social Dimension in Ukraine” and “Support to Ukraine in the Implementation of Council of Europe Standards on the Judiciary”, implemented for execution of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery, Reconstruction” for 2023-2026, as well as , the Project “Support to the Development of Constitutional Justice in Ukraine”, implemented within the framework of the European Union and Council of Europe Joint Programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, Phase III.

The event brought together representatives of the Parliament, Government, judiciary, academics and experts.

The development of common approaches to understanding the essence and functions of the welfare state in the context of the formation of a new social contract in Ukraine, the constitutional limits of the state's social functions, as well as possible prospects for the constitutional evolution of Ukraine in terms of defining the content and scope of social rights were the issues discussed at this event.

At the end of the professional discussion, the participants exchanged views on balancing the social functions of the state with the requirements of the rule of law and economic viability in today's conditions.

The event was moderated by Svitlana Khyliuk, Director of the Ukrainian Catholic University School of Law.
