Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Tupytskyi and Natalia Shaptala participated in an international conference on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania

On October 20, 2017, the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Tupytskyi and Natalia Shaptala participated in the International Conference  "Europeanization of domestic constitutional law and constitutionalization of European law - challenges for the future" on the occasion of the 25th  anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania.

The event was opened by the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania Bashkim Dedja. He noted that the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania celebrates its 25th anniversary with an update. Due to the constitutional reform in the justice system launched by the Parliament in 2016, today the basic legal guarantees for increasing the professionalism of the Constitutional Court judges, transparency in the process of their election and appointment have been created.

The President of the Republic of Albania Ilir Meta noted that the 25-year experience of the activity of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania has a positive impact on the country's economic, social, cultural and political situation and also contributes to the development of democracy on the path to Europeanization. According to him, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania demonstrates in its decisions unity, professionalism and independence from political influence and that fact allows to avoid social tension and conflicts between different social groups.

The welcome speeches were also delivered by the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania Gramoz Ruçi, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania Edi Rama, President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, the Chairwoman of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Ursula Männle.

Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Olexandr Tupitskyi delivered his report "Europeanization of Constitutional Law of Ukraine: Tendencies of Application of the 1950 Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of 1950 and the positions of the European Court of Human Rights in the jurisprudence of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine".

Representatives of the bodies of the constitutional justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, the Republic of Kosovo, Romania, the Republic of Turkey, the Czech Republic, Republic of Montenegro, representatives of international organisations and foundations, scientists and others took part in the event.
