Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk attended presentation of the OSCE project "Support to National Dialogue for Reforms, Justice and Development"

 

 

On March 24-25, 2015 upon the invitation of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, Ambassador Vaidotas Verba judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Relations Stanislav Shevchuk participated in the presentation of the project "Support to national dialogue for reforms, justice and development", held in the premises of the OSCE Secretariat in the capital of the Republic of Austria, Vienna.

The aim of the presentation was to discuss the introduction and implementation of the parameters and areas of the project "Support to national dialogue for reforms, justice and development", to be implemented by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine in co-operation with the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. The project aims to support the process of reforms in Ukraine that are designed to be a result of joint efforts of all branches of government, society and business for 2015-2018.

Cooperation within the project will be financed by the OSCE extra-budgetary funds and supported the Ukrainian partners in systematization and conducting national reforms; improving transparency of the reforms in Ukraine and promotion of broad national dialogue on the issue; support to the creation of a system to prevent the  violation of  human rights; increase in responsibility and ability of the constitutional  justice; coordination of international cooperation through multilateral negotiations.

Special attention will be paid to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, especially in terms of the changes to the national legislation regarding the introduction of constitutional complaint. In order to increase accessibility and transparency of the constitutional justice, the  project involves a number of activities, including study of the experience of the bodies of constitutional jurisdiction of foreign states; organization of two-days national conferences on constitutional justice with participation of judges, scholars, lawyer-practitioners and international experts; introduction of open online access to databases of decisions, opinions and other acts of the Court; promotion of dialogue between the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the media; establishment of summer schools on constitutional law and human rights protection; organization of national forums, round tables, workshops on issues of constitutional justice and discussion of the national and international ways to protect human rights.

The events on the occasion of the presentation were attended by the heads and representatives of diplomatic missions from 57 OSCEcountries: Ukraine, Denmark, Canada, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Serbia, the United Kingdom, Finland, France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and other countries.

The Ukrainian delegation was also represented by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Dmytro Shymkiv and the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Valeriya Lutkovska. During the presentation they took part in a meeting withOSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier and held an informative briefing together with theOSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, Ambassador Vaidotas Verba and Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Organizations in Vienna, Ambassador IhorProkopchuk.

During the visit Stanislav Shevchuk, Dmytro Shymkiv and Valeriya Lutkovska also held a series of bilateral consultations and meetings with ambassadors of the key OSCE participating states, during which they discussed the issues of interaction and improvement of national and European government agencies in the context of support to the democratic reforms in Ukraine.
