During his visit to the United Kingdom on  October 16, 2024, the Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhiy Riznyk had a meeting with Justices of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom Dame Vivien Rose and Andrew Stephen Burrows.

From the Ukrainian side, the meeting, which was held at the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, was also attended by Former Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhiy Holovaty and the Head of the Department of Constitutional Law at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Olena Boryslavska.

One of the core issues of discussion with British colleagues was the event “Supporting the Rule of Law in Ukraine: The Role of the Ukrainian English Legal Dictionary project” held at the University of Birmingham on October 14–15, 2024. The event was one of the stages in the implementation of the joint project between the University of Birmingham and the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv under the UK Research and Innovation support programme, which was launched to translate core legal terminology from English into Ukrainian, verified by examples – extracts from the case law of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom and the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

During the meeting, Lady Rose and Lord Burrows stressed the importance of the project for further strengthening the rule of law in Ukraine, noted the success of the Ukrainian state in implementing democratic reforms, expressed support for the Ukrainian people in their fight against the russian aggressor, and assured of their particular interest in sharing experience and further cooperation with the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

Serhiy Riznyk expressed his gratitude to his British colleagues for their continued support and commitment to upholding universal legal values and principles, noting the great contribution made by the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom to the pan-European cause of protecting human rights, the rule of law and democracy.

In the course of the visit, Serhiy Riznyk and the delegation also conducted meetings with the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Birmingham Professor Adam Tickell, and with the current member of the House of Lords, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales (2013-2017), The Rt Hon. the Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd.

The visit and the results of the meetings are an additional confirmation of the recognition and support of the British colleagues for the efforts made by Ukraine in general and the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in particular in order to implement shared legal values and principles of Western civilisation in the national state-building practice.
