Former President of the Supreme Court of Estonia Uno Lõhmus visited the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

         On September 16, 2016 Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine    Yurii Baulin met with the former President of the Supreme Court of Estonia, former judge of the European Court of Human Rights, member of the Estonian Academic Law Society, Estonian Department of International Law Organization and member of the Commission for legal expertise of the Constitution Uno Lõhmus.

         The visit was aimed at getting acquaintance with the activity of the sole body of constitutional jurisdiction in Ukraine and prospects for further cooperation between our states.

         During the meeting, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine informed the guest about the Court’s activity and the powers it will be entitled with in view of the adoption of the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine on justice. In particular, it concerns enlargement of the Constitutional Court’s powers, i.e. introduction of the constitutional complaint, deciding on issues suggested to be put forward to the national referendum on popular initiative.

         Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin informed his interlocutor that this October the Constitutional Court of Ukraine will mark its 20th anniversary and on this occasion an international conference will be held to discuss topical issues of constitutional jurisdiction and invited the guest to cooperation.

         In conclusion Uno Lõhmus thanked the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine for warm welcome and expressed hope for further cooperation.
