Dialogue “Constitutional values as the basis of a court decision: harmonising approaches and interpretations”: the Aspen Institute Kyiv held a meeting for judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the Supreme Court

On 16 May, the Aspen Institute Kyiv held a dialogue on “Constitutional values as a basis for a court decision: harmonising approaches and interpretations”. The event brought together judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oksana Hryshchuk, Viktor Kychun, Oleg Pervomayskiy, Serhiy Riznyk, Olga Sovgyria, Galyna Yurovska and judges of the Supreme Court. 

The dialogue was held as part of the Justice, Law and Society programme. The programme's events are intended to create a platform for exchange of views between professionals in the field of law, public administration and human rights to establish institutional cooperation.

The participants were welcomed by Denys Poltavets, Director of Programme Development at The Aspen Institute Kyiv, Oksana Hryshchuk, Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, and Stanislav Kravchenko, President of the Supreme Court.

The participants had an opportunity to discuss a number of issues, including:

  • challenges of democratic governance;
  • satisfaction of the society's demand for justice;
  • means of ensuring the stability of the constitutional order and protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms;
  • mechanisms of interaction between institutions in the implementation of constitutional norms.

The event was moderated by Denys Poltavets, Director of Programme Development at The Aspen Institute Kyiv, and Olena Boryslavska, Head of the Department of Constitutional Law at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Doctor of Law, Professor.

The event was coordinated by Olena Fomina, Policy Program Director at The Aspen Institute Kyiv.
