During the working visit to Brussels to participate in the second EU-Ukraine bilateral meeting, the delegation of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine composed of the Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Viktor Gorodovenko and Acting Head of the Legal Directorate of the Secretariat of the Court Mykola Grytsenko paid a visit to the Constitutional Court of Belgium, where they held a meeting with the Presidents of the Court Pierre Nihoul and Luc Lavrysen.
The parties exchanged views on the functioning of the constitutional jurisdiction bodies of both countries, in particular, on their powers, structure and tasks. Viktor Gorodovenko informed about the activities of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, its achievements and challenges. He noted that despite the brutal military aggression waged by the Russian Federation against our country, Ukraine continues to move steadily towards democracy, the rule of law and European integration. The judge emphasised that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine plays a key role in safeguarding the Constitution, inalienable constitutional rights and freedoms, and guaranteeing the stability of the democratic system in Ukraine.
A separate topic was the development of bilateral cooperation between the Constitutional Courts of Ukraine and Belgium. The interlocutors expressed their mutual desire to further strengthen relations and share best practices in constitutional justice.
Viktor Gorodovenko expressed his sincere gratitude for the unwavering support of the Ukrainian people provided by Belgium since the beginning of Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
