As part of the European Commission's international technical assistance project TAIEX, a workshop was held on 27 March 2025 to study the European experience of archival units of constitutional jurisdictions and judicial bodies in European countries. The event was also attended by representatives of the Supreme Court and the State Archives of Kyiv.
Larysa Biriuk, First Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Court - Head of the Department of Organisational Work, noted that the Court's fund is constantly growing and the issue of its preservation is always relevant, especially in times of war. In this aspect, it is important for the Court to find out the objective criteria for storage for each type of document created in foreign constitutional courts. The study of international experience in digital preservation, the latest technologies for preserving funds on various media will only contribute to this.
Vlastimil Hettinger, Secretary General of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic, and Kristaps Tamužs, Head of the Legal Department of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia, shared their experience of working with archival funds with Ukrainian colleagues.
They shared the specifics of working with documents and materials that are in the proceedings of their constitutional courts. In particular, they spoke about the classification of cases and documents received by the court, their distribution, processing, time criteria and peculiarities of storing paper and electronic documents, archiving procedures, and also provided statistical indicators of cases generated in the courts' activities.
Such workshops are an effective platform for establishing a dialogue between the staffs of constitutional courts of Ukraine and foreign countries to exchange experience on various issues.
