Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin met with the representatives of the European Union/Council of Europe Joint Project “Consolidation of Justice Sector Policy Development in Ukraine”

 

            On July 15, 2016 Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin met with the representatives of the European Union/Council of Europe Joint Project “Consolidation of Justice Sector Policy Development in Ukraine”.

            Chairman of the Court welcomed guests and expressed his satisfaction about new possibilities for development of cooperation. “We are now at a responsible stage and we are going to face new changes, in particular introduction of the constitutional complaint”, he said.

            Head of the European Union/Council of Europe Joint Project “Consolidation of Justice Sector Policy Development in Ukraine” Olena Trapeznikova thanked Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine for the invitation and the opportunity to discuss possible areas of cooperation. She spoke about goals and plans of the Project, which cooperates with a wide range of institutions in justice sector.

            Head of the Project noted that this project is developed to support Ukraine in the implementation of a large-scale reform in justice sector to ensure compliance with the Council of Europe standards and norms. Areas of its activity include expert assistance, support in monitoring and coordinating implementation of reforms, capacity building of justice institutions in conducting reforms and implementing their results, promoting public awareness and support for reforms.

            Olena Trapeznikova underlined special significance of the today’s reform of the constitutional justice in the frames of the general reform in the sphere of justice.

            The interlocutors discussed the amendments to the Constitution as to justice, which will become effective soon, and tasks and challenges faced by the Constitutional Court in the process of reform and outlined areas for future cooperation.

            The event was also attended by the Project Officer of the European Union/Council of Europe joint Project “Consolidation of Justice Sector Policy Development in Ukraine” Olga Shevchenko, Head of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yaroslav Vasylkevych, staff of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
