Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin met the Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of LithuaniaArmanas Abramavičius and Head of the EU Project «Support to justice sector reforms in Ukraine» Virgilijus Valančius

 

 

On March 20, 2015 Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yu.Baulin held a meeting with the Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Lithuania, former Justice of the Constitutional Court (2002-2011), Doctor of Law, Professor Armanas Abramavičius and the Head of the EU Project “Support to justice sector reforms in Ukraine”, Doctor of Law, Professor Virgilijus Valančius.

Interlocutors discussed Ukrainian legal system reforms, including such priority areas as the constitutional reform, reforms of the judiciary and law-enforcement bodies, human rights protection. Furthermore, they touched upon a number of aspects of the constitutional reform in Ukraine, namely the role and power of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in the process of the adoption of the new wording of the Constitution of Ukraine.

Special attention was paid to the results of the III International judicial and legal forum “Judicial reform inUkraine: the European vector”, held in Kyiv on 19-20 March at the Supreme Court of Ukraine.  Yurii Baulin, A.Abramavičius, V.Valančius who had participated in the forum exchanged their opinions on the content of the presentations and topicality of the issues raised during the discussion, namely the distinction of powers of the Constitutional and the Supreme Courts of Ukraine; they also expressed their views on the necessity of further steps for successful overcoming the existing inconsistencies and the effective implementation of the judicial and legal reform in Ukraine on the whole.

The guests made a tour of the Court’s premises, including the session room, deliberation room, library, press-centre and the Court’s museum.
