Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin met with Coordinator of the EU Project “Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine” Dovydas Vitkauskas

 

 

 On June 14, 2016 Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin held а meeting with Coordinator of the EU Project "Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine"Dovydas Vitkauskas at the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The meeting was attended by national experts of the EU Project "Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine" Iuliia Zemlytska and Denys Pashchenko, Head of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yaroslav Vasylkevych, Head of the Department of Chairman's and Deputy Chairmen's activities of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine MarynaArshevska, Head of External Relations Department Olga Kravchenko.

The interlocutors discussed a number of issues concerning further cooperation between the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the EU Project, in particular, they outlined vital issues for the Court in the nearest future.

Dovydas Vitkauskas stressed that it was important to identify narrower essential areas of interaction for specific future projects.

Yurii Baulin noted that due to the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in the part of justice, it was still important to work out amendments to the Law of Ukraine on the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, the Rules of Procedure of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the principles determining constitutional justice. He also dwelt upon the introduction of the constitutional complaint in Ukraine and stressed on the importance of defining its model for the Ukrainian state. In his turn, Dovydas Vitkauskas agreed and added that "there is no   one recipe in such a subtle topic."

Coordinator of the EU Project expressed his support to work on certain topics together with Ukrainian colleagues. He also proposed to decide in respect of experts from the EU that could join working group of special projects.

Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin informed the interlocutors that in October the Constitutional Court of Ukraine would celebrate the 20th anniversary of its foundation and would hold an international conference, where urgent issues of constitutional jurisdiction would be discussed, and invited guests to participate in it.

In conclusion, the parties thanked each other for interesting conversation and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
