Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk met with the Special Advisor of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for Ukraine Régis Brillat

 

On February 22, 2018 Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk met with the Special Advisor of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for Ukraine Régis Brillat.

The meeting was also attended by Senior political  advisor of the Special Advisor of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for Ukraine Oksana Pasheniuk and the management of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The parties noted the long-standing cooperation of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with the Council of Europe, in particular, within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine. The interlocutors emphasised that on February 21, 2018 the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted a new Action Plan for Ukraine 2018-2021, the fifth one in the framework of cooperation between Ukraine and the Council of Europe. This strategic document is aimed at providing significant assistance to Ukraine in reforming the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, enforcement of court decisions, as well as in the area of ​​decentralisation and fight against corruption, and will promote the implementation of our country's Association Agreement with EU.

Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk noted significant positive developments in the work of the Court. He stressed that today the Constitutional Court of Ukraine had adopted the Rules of Procedure – a procedural document defining the organisation of the Court’s internal work and the relevant rules of procedure for consideration of constitutional complaints. Adoption of the Rules of Procedure launches a mechanism for consideration of constitutional complaints introduced by the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine. The next stage in the work of the Court is the adoption of the Regulations on the Secretariat, the formation of senates, boards, etc., added Stanislav Shevchuk.

Special Advisor of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for Ukraine Régis Brillat congratulated Stanislav Shevchuk on his election as the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and wished success in his work. He stressed that Ukraine is experiencing difficult times, which is also reflected in the work of the constitutional jurisdiction body. “Therefore, the complex tasks will arise before you”, said the speaker.

The parties thanked each other for a fruitful meeting and expressed their hope for further cooperation.

It is worth to note that the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk continues to receive numerous congratulations from international partners, in particular from the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions (BBCJ), the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ), as well as representatives of the bodies of the constitutional jurisdiction of foreign states, domestic judicial institutions, educational and scientific institutions, namely, the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine.
