Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin and judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala took part in the International Conference on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria

 

         Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin and judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala took part in the International Conference on "The Protection of Fundamental Citizens' Rights and National Security in the Modern World. The Role of Constitutional Courts", held on September 21-22 in Sofia (the Republic of Bulgaria), on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The event was attended by presidents and judges of the bodies of constitutional jurisdiction of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Portugal, Turkey, Hungary, Ukraine, France and other countries, representatives of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and bodies of judiciary and academic institutions of Bulgaria.

President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria Tsetska Tsacheva, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria Boris Velchev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov, President of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) Gianni Buquicchio and representatives of the bodies of judiciary, courts, prosecutor's office of the Republic of Bulgaria welcomed the participants.

In his speech, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria Boris Velchev underlined that the direct constitutional complaint means not only greater control on the part of government institutions, but also additional guarantee of human rights. He also drew attention of the representatives of government that it is time for the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria to have its own building. He told that 25 years were enough to find suitable premises.

During the conference, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor, Full Member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine Yurii Baulin presented the report on the topic "The jurisprudence of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on the protection of national security".

The participants discussed a number of issues concerning the protection of citizens’ constitutional rights and freedoms, national security in the modern world in the jurisprudence of constitutional courts participating in the conference.
