Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine Radek Matula

 

 

On May 16, 2017 Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine Radek Matula at the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

Yurii Baulin congratulated the guest on his appointment and expressed his satisfaction that there are new opportunities to expand cooperation.

The interlocutors highlighted the important role of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the Czech Republic, notably in the area of ​​constitutional justice.

"Ukraine is a close neighbour for us, although we have no common border", stressed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine Radek Matula. He expressed readiness to assist in promoting cooperation between constitutional courts of Ukraine and the Czech Republic.

Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine informed the interlocutor that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is a member of the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions (BBCJ), established in October 2015 in Vilnius. From 1 January 2017 the Constitutional Court of Ukraine holds the presidency in the Association.

Yurii Baulin reported that on June 1-2, 2017 the Second BBCJ Congress on "The role of constitutional courts in interpreting the provisions of national constitutions in the context of the generally recognised principles and norms of international law and EU law, judgments of international courts" and General Assembly of the Association will be held in Kharkiv and invited the Ambassador to participate in the event.

Yurii Baulin also said that last year on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment the Constitutional Court of Ukraine held an International Conference on "Constitutional control and processes of democratic transformation in modern society" and presented the conference materials.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine Radek Matula reminded that on 29-30 June 2017 in Batumi (Georgia) the XVII Congress of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts on "The Role of Constitutional Courts in Upholding and Applying Constitutional Principles" will be held. He informed that the candidacy of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic was nominated for hosting the XVIII Congress of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts. "In 2020, when the XVIII Congress of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts is to take place, it will be exactly 100 years since the establishment of the European constitutional justice", continued the Ambassador.

At the end of the meeting the parties thanked for the informative conversation and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
