On October 10, 2024, the working meeting of the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with the representatives of the Ukrainian Bar Association was held. During this meeting the parties discussed ways to improve cooperation and opportunities for its deepening.
The meeting was attended by the Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Viktor Gorodovenko, Vasyl Lemak, Oleg Pervomayskiy, as well as the Head of the Secretariat of the Court Viktor Beschastnyy and First Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Court Larysa Biriuk.
The Ukrainian Bar Association was represented by the President of the Association Mykola Stetsenko, Vice-President Tetiana Lysovets, Chairman of the Committee on Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Human Rights Dmytro Yevdokimov, Chairman of the GR Committee Alyona Shulima, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Military Law, Military Justice and Veterans’ Rights Anastasiia Didenko, and Committees and Sections Manager Victoriia Motia.
The Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine stressed that the activities of the constitutional review body of Ukraine are focused on deliberation of cases of utmost importance for the state and society, that require in-depth analysis, a complex approach and a comprehensive assessment, taking into account the opinion of highly qualified specialists. In this context, the significance of the opinions provided by the Ukrainian Bar Association in the format of amicus curiae is extremely important for ensuring a comprehensive deliberation of cases and allows taking into account expert positions and strengthening the substantiation of the Court’s decisions.
Representatives of the Ukrainian Bar Association confirmed their readiness to actively engage in scientific and expert activities. They noted that cooperation with the Constitutional Court enables the legal community to participate directly in the processes that determine the development of the legal system and the protection of human rights.
