The winners of the competition for the best scientific article on the protection of human rights announced

Oleh Serpak, student of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University (1st place), Oleh Holiev, student of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (2nd place), Anastasiia Toliupa, student of the Poltava Professional College of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University (3rd place), and Anastasiia Mysiura, student of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (received the award For extraordinary relevance and obvious element of scientific novelty) won the competition for the best scientific article on the protection of human rights.

In the course of the events on the occasion of the Constitution Day of Ukraine, they were awarded with the Constitutional Court of Ukraine certificate of honour and memorable souvenirs. The article of the winner of the competition Oleh Serpak on the topic “Are human rights respected in Ukraine when bringing him/her to criminal liability for handling firearms?” will be made public in the official publication – “The Bulletin of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine”.

In October 2023, on the occasion of the Day of the Establishment of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, a competition for the best scientific article on the protection of human rights was announced. Students, postgraduate students, adjuncts, and applicants for higher education were invited to participate. Pursuant to the terms of the competition, the scientific article, together with the application and review, had to be submitted by June 1, 2024.

We have received about 200 articles from 43 higher education establishments from all over Ukraine. The scientific papers  were received from students of not only leading law schools, but also from law students of non-core higher education establishments.

In particular, we have acquired articles from students of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, National University “Odesa Law Academy”, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Educational and Scientific Institute of Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, Educational and Scientific Institute of Law of the State Tax University, Leonid Yuzkov Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law, Poltava Professional College of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, and Sumy National Agrarian University.

The jury of the competition, including the Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and the Members of the Scientific and Advisory Council of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, meticulously assessed each work in accordance with the requirements set out in the Competition Regulations. The decision were discussed and delivered collectively.

So we congratulate the winner of the competition. We wish you never to rest on your laurels, set ambitious goals, and achieve them!
