"Constitutional Week" started at the Constitutional Court of Ukraine
On the eve of the celebration of the 24th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine, the Constitutional Week started at the Constitutional Court.
As part of it, a number of events are planned, including an international conference on interpretation in constitutional proceedings, online seminars with the participation of presidents and judges of constitutional jurisdiction of foreign countries, leading domestic and international experts and other events.
The constitutional week began with a working meeting of Oleksandr Tupytskyi, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, with Ambassador Henrik Villadsen, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine.
At the beginning of the meeting, the parties noted the constructive nature of long-term cooperation between the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine. Oleksandr Tupytskyi, on behalf of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, thanked the Ambassador for his continued support, emphasising that the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine has been and remains one of the Court's most reliable partners for many years.
This is confirmed by implementation of a joint three-year project: "Support for the protection of human rights by improving access to constitutional justice". The parties thanked the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany for its support and readiness to assist in the implementation of certain components of the project.
The parties also discussed the creation of the institute of a special adviser, emphasising its advantages. The conclusions of independent experts, which contain the best European human rights practices, will strengthen the authority of the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
In turn, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine noted that the institute of special advisers is a good tool for eliminating the political component in the work of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. The Ambassador stressed that the European partners consider the independence of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to be an important element of a democratic society where the rule of law is respected.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed support for each other, outlined possible forms of cooperation in the future and assured of the need for further development of partnerships.
