The delegation of the Supreme Administrative Court of the Republic of Poland visited the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

On February 7, 2018 Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Viktor Kryvenko and Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala met with the Judges of the Supreme Administrative Court of the Republic of Poland Krzysztof Winiarski and Tomasz Kolanowski.

 

The purpose of the visit of the delegation of the Republic of Poland was to familiarise with the powers and organisation of the activities of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Viktor Kryvenko told the guests about the amendments related to the constitutional legal proceedings introduced to the Constitution of Ukraine and the Law of Ukraine "On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine", according to which citizens of Ukraine can apply to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with a constitutional complaint.

Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala acquainted the guests with the specificities of the activities of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine,  in particular, the work of the Grand Chamber of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, the Court’s Senates and Boards. The Judge also touched upon the functioning of administrative justice in Ukraine and the protection of constitutional rights of citizens.

The Head of the delegation of the Republic of Poland Krzysztof Winiarski spoke about the main tasks of the Supreme Administrative Court of the Republic of Poland, stressing the importance of cooperation of this institution with the Constitutional Tribunal of the Republic of Poland. He cited examples of recent decisions taken by the Constitutional Tribunal of the Republic of Poland, which interested the Ukrainian colleagues.

The interlocutors thanked each other for the warm meeting and expressed hope for further cooperation between the Supreme Administrative Court of the Republic of Poland and the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The delegation were offered a tour around the Constitutional Court, during which they visited the courtroom of the Grand Chamber, the Senate, press centre and the museum exposition.

The junior researcher of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Anzhelika Tkachuk also took part in the meeting.
